A selection of past meetings of NWPPA
Meetings from 2008
12 April 2008 Meeting held in the Nottingham area, based around a varied programme of music on the Ampico reproducing piano. Overall, we had the theme of "Spring", though the weather was rather mixed (with hail during some of the most sunny pieces!). Here is a selection of pictures taken throughout the informal part of the afternoon. Once again we were joined by several members of the Player Piano Group, our sister society centred on the London area.
Meetings from 2007
28 April 2007 Meeting held in the Nottingham area, centred on four different types of reproducing piano: Duo Art, Ampico, the fairly unusual Red Welte and the ever rarer Artrio-Angelus. We had a very enjoyable afternoon of music, food and chat. Here is a selection of pictures taken throughout the afternoon giving a good flavour of the meeting. Once again we were joined by several members of the Player Piano Group, our sister society centred on the London area.
23 June 2007 AGM and meeting held in the north Cheshire area, hosted by our Editor and centred on two almost-identical upright Steinway Duo-Art reproducing pianos (the type shown on our logo!). As always, there was an interesting programme of music covering several centuries, ranging from the fairly serious to the surprisingly frivolous, rounded off with an excellent buffet accompanied by a little live music from our host's granddaughter. Here are a few pictures of the meeting.
Meetings from 2006
9 September 2006 Meeting held just outside Leeds, West Yorkshire, where we heard our host's newly-restored Ampico reproducing piano, along with his Steck Duo-Art reproducing piano also in good voice after an overhaul. We were treated to an enjoyable afternoon with a varied programme of music, with a strong theme being the dance music of the 20s, 30s and 40s.. Here's a picture of one of our earlier visits there.
11 November 2006 Meeting held in Nottingham, centred around an Ampico reproducing piano (see picture). We had an enjoyable afternoon with a varied programme of music. This meeting featured (amongst many other items) several rolls by Victor Arden and Adam Carroll, both as solo pianists and as a (very lively) piano duo. A further feature was a live interlude (and an encore!) from one of our members, playing pieces by Gershwin and Dowland. It was good that on this occasion we were joined by several members of the Player Piano Group, our sister society centred on the London area.
Meetings from 2005
12 March 2005 Meeting held near Preston, Lancashire, centred around an early 65-note "push-up" piano player. Here's a picture of our earlier visit there.
23 April 2005 Meeting held in Nottingham, centred around an Ampico reproducing piano (see picture). We had an enjoyable afternoon mainly of lighter music, with an emphasis on the rolls made by the prolific music arranger Frank Milne.
